Thing 13

Students could have a lot of fun with this site. You wouldn't need Photoshop Elements and they could share their creations with the class. Students could make a photo book on a subject of your choice. They could use Picnik to edit photos that needed to be cropped or any other feature. Fun site.

Thing 12

I have posted a picture of my newphew playing in the state semi-finals basketball game. I forgot to tag it misd23things. I tagged it basketball.

Use could use Flickr to share photos of a project you may be working on. Students could use some of these photos in a presentation or newsletter or any other project you may assign. The only thing I do not like is that if you give your students your log in to get pictures they can edit photos on their own where you can not supervise them. You must also be careful not to allow them to get access to inappropriate pictures for students.

Computer Survey

Thing 11

SlideShare is a very neat web site. Students could create their own slideshow and share it on the web. Teachers could view their shows from anywhere. The only problem I could see is if a student downloaded a slideshow already made, make a few changes, and claim that show their own. Can you have a setting where students can not download a slideshow and edit it?

Thing 10

I like the fact that I can access the documents I create in Google Docs from anywhere. My students could do home work or lab work paperless by putting labs and tests in google docs. They could also create their presentations and share them with others through google docs. A draw back would be students not doing their own work and getting credit for it. Working in the "cloud" is fun, frustrating at times, exciting, and you need to work at it. It is not something you can do, put it down for a while, and then try and pick up on it again. There are some many advantages if you use these tools but I think that some find it scarey. Educators want to keep students safe when they are online and it can be scarey for students to work in the "clouds"

How do you embed your survey into your blogs? I know you copy the text (embed code), but where?

thing 8

I really like the delicious web site! Students can share their web site favorites for reseach in a class. If your students are googling for a topic and find some good web sites and save them as bookmarks they can share them with others in the class or others can have access to them in the classroom.

Thing 5 - Web 2.0

Listening, watching, and reading about Web 2.0 made me understand what people have understand in the Gen-Y era. It is not just education but life styles that have changed. When I get home from teaching or coaching I always check my email or web sites that have information I need for the day. I rely on my computer for comunication. My daughters do the same thing only with their phones. It is amazing what their phones can do!

Back to education. Because I teach computers I feel I should be in touch with everything that is available to students. Blogging and using the web have become more of a priority than it has in the past. Teaching just applications and programming is not possible. Web 2.0 has changed that.

Thing 4

Having watched a few videos and read a few journals I relized that most of them were saying the same thing. Students need to be learning world wide and that 21st Century learning does not take away from the academics. All of the new tools we have available to help us educate is amazing. The technology are tools to help us teach but also allow students to be learning world wide. I am a computer science teacher and I teach students how to use these tools. Education has changed since I was in school...I think it is much more exciting because of the 21st Century tools.

Trying to catch up

Hi everyone! I will try and catch up with those who are cruising along in this blog thing. Is seems that time is very limited for me and with coaching starting back up next week I thought I should get on this ride quickly. I will try and visit blogs that have already been posted and get to know some of you.

If you have any questions for me please feel free to jump in.
